Breakfast is served between 8.15am and 9am each morning. As we cook everything fresh we reserve you a specific time and ask you to fill in a pre-order form. This really helps us in the morning to provide you with a better service and helps with any wastage. Of course, we are flexible and we know things can change over night so we will try to accommodate any request.
The dining room in Penrose Bed & Breakfast, where breakfast is served, is a beautiful reminder of the opulence of a bygone era, with a large slate fireplace with log burner, cornicing, picture rail and very high ceiling. We also have something of this day and age – a computer with Internet access, which is for anyone to use, and usually has photos from around Cornwall showing.
Breakfast consists of your choice off the cold buffet. This includes a choice of branded cereals with semi skimmed milk, fresh fruit, grapefruit segments, cheeses, nuts & seeds and you can make as much toast (white or seeded brown) as you want, and condiments include locally made jam and Heidi's homemade marmalade, plus marmite, honey, lemon curd, nutella and peanut butter. For summer we have plain yoghurt and cold meats. We try to cater for other dietary requirements, so please let us know how we can help.
The Full Cooked English Breakfast consists of locally farmed grilled unsmoked back bacon, locally farmed and handmade grilled sausages (from Liddicoats butchers in Lostwithiel), locally farmed free range eggs either fried or scrambled, grilled fresh tomato, black pudding, hash brown, sauteed fresh mushrooms and Lincolnshire vegetarian sausages, or you can have two kippers, or smoked salmon & scrambled eggs. Plus you can have lovely hot porridge. You have a choice of tomato sauce, brown sauce, Reggae Reggae tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, tobasco sauce and English mustard – if you require any other accoutrement please let us know.
We wait until you arrive in the dining room before we start to cook your breakfast, so everything is fresh on the plate, hence we don't do baked beans or poached eggs (mushrooms, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon and kippers are enough for me to juggle all at once!).
Beverages include a selection of 10 types of tea & herbal teas (peppermint, lemon, camomile, earl grey, green tea etc), freshly ground medium roast coffee served in cafétieres, orange juice, apple juice, bottled mineral water and squash. For those who are cutting down on the caffeine, we have decaf tea, and decaf cafetiere or instant coffee.
‘Thank you for the warm welcome. Loved the breakfasts! We need to go home now while I can still fit Peter through the door!’ – Diane & Peter
